HALL Charles Kenneth Raymond
career soldier 1928-2004
Ken (Horse) Hall was born in Armadale. He started as a process worker in Victoria, and in November 1947 enlisted in the Australian Regular Army.
After completing recruit training at Greta, he was posted to the Army School of Catering at Puckapunyal where he attended a Specialist Cooking Course. In 1948 Ken was posted to RMC’s Supply and Transport Wing and during that time was detached to 504 GT Coy. His next posting was to 1 Coy RAASC Puckapunyal where in 1950 he completed a Driver MT Course, being promoted to corporal in 1952.
He departed Sydney for Japan in 1954 and transferred to Infantry, serving in Korea with 3 RAR. Returning to Australia in 1955, he transferred back to RAASC and was posted to 20 NS Bn Puckapunyal as a platoon sergeant. This was followed by postings to: Australian Staff College Queenscliff as regimental duty NCO, 1 Coy RAASC Holsworthy as operations sergeantt, 158 Tank Tptr Pl Puckapunyal as platoon sergeant, 2 Rec Trg Bn Puckapunyal as Tpt NCO and S Comd Trade Trg Centre Broadmeadows as assistant instructor.
Ken was promoted WO2 in 1967, posted to Papua New Guinea as Asst Instr (S&T) at the Goldie River Trg Depot; he returned to Australia in 1969 to N Comd Trade Trg Centre Ashgrove as CSM. Discharged from the ARA in 1972, Ken joined the CMF where he was promoted WO1 as RSM 10 S&T Column Ashgrove. He finally left the Army in 1974.
Ken married Val in 1959 and they had one child, Helen and two grandsons. Ken passed away in Brisbane in January 2004.
